Statement from Judie concerning Pattern White and the wonderful pups from Warner X Shelby

The Warner X Shelby litter produced Pattern White pups. When this happened I decided to do research into the issue, finding that both parents had to carry the gene for Pattern White to produce it in a litter. Shelby did not show pattern white but carried the gene. These pups are super in all ways but their color, all loved and cared for by their owners. They were all sold or placed under a spay/neuter contract except for Heath. I understand Heath carries the gene and I plan to breed away from it in any future litters.

Some breeders put down Pattern White pups and sell pups that look normal in color. That is a disservice to buyers that choose to breed as those pups will carry the gene and knowledge is everything when planning to breed. Pattern White pups should not be put down in my opinion. They have no health issues at all; just shouldn’t be bred. Pattern White is different than Lethal White which causes blindness, deafness and usually death. Lethal White is produced from a breeding of merle X merle.
